Guided Tour

In the heart of the Champs-Elysées, the new Dior boutique stands like a majestic showcase and a spellbinding twin, a surprising evocation of the hôtel particulier at 30 Avenue Montaigne.

An homage to Christian Dior’s hôtel particulier, closed while undergoing a metamorphosis, a captivating trompe-l’œil, entirely made by hand, conjures, as if by magic, the façade of 30 Avenue Montaigne on the world’s most beautiful avenue. On display in this kingdom of dreams are the latest collections from across Dior’s universes, showcased in an unprecedented scenography crowned by a spectacular luminous dome, with a curved, ribbon-like staircase, a poetic fresco of white toiles celebrating the savoir-faire of the House’s Ateliers, works and sculptures reinterpreting the iconic Lady Dior bag and exclusive furniture by contemporary artists. A new chapter opens in Dior’s love affair with Paris, a marriage of audacity and architectural virtuosity.

A leopard print designed by Raymond Pettibon echoes Kim Jones' love of nature and animals, and reprises one of the founding couturier's favorite codes: leopard print has been present ever since Dior’s debut collection, in 1947. Now reinvented, this signature code returns in the Winter 2019-2020 men’s wear collection on coats with original interplays of materials, while a tiger motif embellishes elegant draping, reflecting the haute couture heritage of the House.

Artistic Fusion

An homage to Christian Dior's first vocation as a gallerist, this series by photographer Steven Meisel portrays looks from the men's Winter 2019-2020 collection, in a setting inspired by the studio of Raymond Pettibon, an emblematic figure of the punk rock scene in California in the 1970s.

Like singular backdrops, Raymond Pettibon’s works are revealed in men’s wear creations by Kim Jones. “For this collection, we selected some of our favorite pieces from his body of work, pieces that have never been shown before, because they underscored things I really like,” said the Artistic Director of the artist’s precious works, such as the mysterious visage that appears on a sweater. For this Winter 2019-2020 men’s wear collection, Kim Jones’ new tailoring takes on utilitarian-inspired details, as do accessories embellished with buckles designed by Matthew Williams.

The iconic Saddle bag, now reinterpreted in a nylon cross-body version, also lends its curves to the pocked of a quilted backpack embroidered with Christian Dior’s signature cannage motif that recalls the chairs he used to seat guests at the fashion shows held at 30 Avenue Montaigne.

Plays of Light

For the Autumn-Winter Haute 2019-2020 Haute Couture show, Peter Philips, Director of Creation and Image for Dior Makeup, designed a mysterious beauty look.

Like perfectly beautiful caryatids, the models who walked in the Dior Haute Couture show had pure, glowing skin. Backstage, under Peter Philips’ direction, the makeup artists created the look by starting with the mattifying, hydrating Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer, followed by one of the four variations of Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation, in function of each model’s skin tone. As a final touch, they used Flash Luminizer to highlight the look.

Contrasting with the complexion’s transparency, the eyes were smoky, elegant and romantic. Black powder from the new Dior Tri(o)blique palette underscored the eyes and was applied around the contour from lash line to brow line for a crescendo effect.  At once delicate, soft and intense, the look used neither eyeliner nor mascara. Brows were gracefully underscored with Diorshow Drow Styler and Diorshow Pump’N’Brow. Lastly, the lips were subtly colored with Dior Lip Maximizer.

Two fine braids, rolled delicately around an imperial chignon, gave a finishing touch to hairstyles gently veiled in black mesh.
